Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam

The beautiful and talented Ekayani and her healing band rocked the house on Sunday!! Good soulful music great stage presence and enthusiastic crowd made for another great night at the Lizard lounge yesterday.

Ekayani is from NY and is a good friend of mine. I am very glad she performed at the Lizard! She has supported the Trio on many occasions when we played in NYC so I am glad to repay her! She is off to Europe next month for a tour! GOOD LUCK!!

Tai won the slam yesterday with Jme coming in second. A good night overall and a lot of Lizard Lounge Lovin’ goin’ on. Next week we have Mwalim!!

Lynne Procope was the featured poet last Sunday and she was incredible! I got so much positive feedback from this feature it was insane! Emails, phone calls, high fives and etc! People loved her and so did I and I am a person too, last time I check at least!

We’ve had a great run of wonderful New York poets featured lately with Patricia Smith, Sparlha Swa and Lynne. Next week we have Ekayani, who is also from NY!

Eric Darby won the slam last Sunday. Cole made him work for it though! Eric is also one of our new host for the slam so it was good for him to get the win. Tai hosted the slam last week and she was good. Her first time hosting and she was a little nervous but she’ll be fine after a few more turns and a couple of pointers. She’s got great presence!

I hosted the open mic and Bryonn Bain was back in the house!! A good open mic with a few new voices too. I’ll see you next week for Ekayani and The Healing Band.

The Lizard Lounge cam alive last night!! Patricia Smith was remarkable! She came, she saw and she kicked booty!! I LOVE PATRICIA!! She was in fine form last night. The heavyweight Champion of the WORLD!! You can’t say enough about her enormous talent. She had not featured at the Lizard in more than 6 years. It was great to have her back in the room and sharing her gift! Packed house full of people wanted nothing but to listen to her recite. Great experience for all. Sparlha Swa opened up for Patricia with a few songs and she was very good. Smooth, Sade like vocals over acoustic guitar. She will be a star for sure.

I co-hosted the Slam last night with Eric and the return of Tai who was out of town for quite awhile. New comer Joshua won the slam and Henry came in second. I don’t have Henry’s email address so if you read this Henry please send me you email address.

Another incredible night at the Lizard Lounge!! A double feature that was well worth the money, time and sweat it took to produce! We had 2 extraordinary poets on the mic last Sunday. Nicole and Adrian were remarkable. If you missed it, shame on you!! Adrian had not had a feature anywhere in quite sometime. Nicole wanted to have this double feature with Adrian in particular. How could he say no and you know I was down!

They had a nice flow with their presentation. Duets and solo work had a good rhythm and it was easy for the band to catch on to them pretty quick. Outstanding poetry that left the room speechless at times. Simply a GREAT FEATURE!!

Christopher Johnson won the slam this week. Joey came in second again. Christopher won despite going over time during each round! Signs of a good poet! I hosted the slam and it was fun. We had a few first time judges who loved the slam and promised to come back. Patricia Smith and special guest Sparhla Swa next week!! Be there are you’ll have to hear through the grape vine!
