Patricia Smith March 11
The Lizard Lounge cam alive last night!! Patricia Smith was remarkable! She came, she saw and she kicked booty!! I LOVE PATRICIA!! She was in fine form last night. The heavyweight Champion of the WORLD!! You can’t say enough about her enormous talent. She had not featured at the Lizard in more than 6 years. It was great to have her back in the room and sharing her gift! Packed house full of people wanted nothing but to listen to her recite. Great experience for all. Sparlha Swa opened up for Patricia with a few songs and she was very good. Smooth, Sade like vocals over acoustic guitar. She will be a star for sure.
I co-hosted the Slam last night with Eric and the return of Tai who was out of town for quite awhile. New comer Joshua won the slam and Henry came in second. I don’t have Henry’s email address so if you read this Henry please send me you email address.
Every Sunday with a Poetry Slam starting at 7:30pm and a Featured Poet and Open Mic accompanied by the Jeff Robinson Trio starting at 9:00pm - there’s a $5 cover and you must be 21 to enter the venue - Sultry red lights, intimate tables, and wooden church pews give this small room one of the best ambiances in town.

Okay this is where poetry comes in to play to say the least words as possible to describe what a night of Patricia smith was like it’s impossible it’s like looking at a picture of the grand canyon and saying the picture never captures the grandeur of it. You just had to be there. When she graces the stage she has blessed the stage, she is divinity. All I sometimes remember is key words and phrases and there were plenty of them when she took the stage, sometimes I just watch the crowd and soak in the words of the poet and all I could see in the audience was smiling faces of every race, color and creed bathing in that light it was truly a parliament funkadelic moment. She not only played with the jazz, she is jazz, okay trinity. The orgasm piece was hilarious I turned to my friend “is that possible? And she said yes†I said “why does she have to be married†and the peanut man piece most everyone knew because it’s timeless and a lot of the cantab crowd was there it was really nice to see them. There’s just so much I really can’t go on with out sounding insane. Ohh that’s right she got a standing ovation, No one wanted her set to end. That woman is a goddess, she’s the empress of poetry Mrs. Smith I’ll bake the pie please come back soon I’m already missing you.
In the struggle, hope an’ fury
Peace, jazz an’ poetry
Many blessings joeY
