Sofia & The Warrior May 27

May 28th, 2007 by Jeff

A great double feature at the Lizard Lounge yesterday! Michael started the night out with great style and flair. He also had special guest perform with him! Michael “Warrior” Bonds has moved to Atlanta but it was great to have him back. He’s a wonderful poet and performer and moved the room with his spirit and precision.

Sophia Snow was just as electric! She had the audience in the palm of her hand from the start and never released them until after she was done. What a talent who will definitely do great things for all of us to see and marvel about. I was very honoured to have her at the Lizard and look forward to her return.

It was a very exciting poetry slam with quite a few new faces! Next week is Da Butcha!

2007 Slam Team & Joyce Birthday May 20

May 22nd, 2007 by Jeff

We have our slam team and we celebrated Joyce’s birthday on the same Sunday! It was a great night last Sunday with a wonderful vibe! The poetry slam team is listed on the sidebar and our “Slam” page. A very talented team that should do us proud at the National Poetry Slam. We have a good schedule of regional slams this summer against tough teams from the north east. Check our “Slam” page for dates and locations of the regional slams and come down and support the Lizard Lounge Poetry Slam Team!

Joyce’s birthday party was wild! Decorations, cake, presents and much love for our Co-Slam Master, Joyce “Slam Mama” Cunha! A sold out room helped Joyce celebrate her day with well wishes on the open mic, hugs and kisses! Joyce is a jewel and we love her and the hard work she puts in at the Lizard on Sunday! Happy Belated Birthday Joyce!!

Ethan Gilsdorf May 13th

May 14th, 2007 by Jeff

A great Mothers Day feature with Ethan Gilsdorf at the Lizard Lounge yesterday!! Ethan had a packed house of fans and friends cheering him on. He gave them a good show too! Great poetry from a great writer for a wonderful audience on a spectacular Mother’s Day!

The slam was fun! We had more slammers than I anticipated being that next week is the finals for our slam team. Adam Stone won the slam. I’ll see all of you on Sunday!!

Carlos Gomez May 6th

May 7th, 2007 by Jeff

What a night, what a night!! First; Carlos, was fantastic!! A professional at work! He does his job! He comes to work and takes care of business!! It has been several years since Carlos was back in the room at the Lizard but he made his presence known yesterday and he was great!! He is on tour and things are going so well for him that he didn’t have anymore books to sell. He sold them all the day before in Baltimore while on tour. Bummer! But he made up for it with a wonderful feature yesterday!

The slam was great and also somewhat controversial! It was our second semi-final and one of the poets didn’t show and another was late so we ended up starting the slam late. Go to our slam page for the final results. Our slam finals and Slam Co-Host Joyce Cunha Birthday Party is May 20th. Be there.
