Gary was a great featured poet yesterday! I mean he really was outstanding! Full of life and spirit and truly did lively up the crowd! Jerome was really tired from and earlier gig and said that Gary was the perfect feature for him. Woke him up and was also a fine poet and showman.
The slam and open mic were fun as usual. The slams will soon count to be in the finals to represent the Lizard Lounge in the Individual World Poetry Slam. Stay tune!
The record release party was off the chain!! Is was spectacular and incredible and all of that!! Can’t even tell you in words how much it all mean to me!
I’ll start with the slam. I hosted and it was a great slam that was full top to bottom with talented and incredible poetry! Tai won the slam over Adam but it was not easy. By .3 of a point! He made her work for it.
The featured poets were marvelous. I brought up Trish, Tom Daley and Joyce Cunha before I brought up Nicole, Iyeoka & Regie and they all rocked it.! We sold some CDs, ate cake and had a great old time!! Lizard Lounge Love!!
Tom Daley was the featured poet yesterday at the Lizard Lounge and he was his normal brilliant self!! What an extraordinary poet Tom is! Casting spells on the audience with his great talent. It was a delight having him and trumpeter Afro-DZ-Ak who sat in on trumpet and it was so much fun!! Great Job Tom!!
Cole won the slam last night. It was a wonderful full slam with a few new to the Lizard poets on the mic! The slam has been great this season so if you want to win some money come on down!
I hosted the open mic and it was another winner. We are recording every week now at the Lizard Lounge, preparing for our next CD so come down and be a part of it!! Our debut release on Poetry Jam Collective/Rounder Record entitled “Next On The Mic” is having it’s release party next Sunday, September 16th at the Lizard. Performances by Nicole Terez, Askia Toure, Iyoeka Okoawo and Regie Gibson will make it an extraordinary night!! Get there early and we’ll see you next week!!
Margo was the featured poet on Sunday, September 2nd and she was her usual spirited self! She has been coming down to the Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam for more than 10 years and has had many features in that time span. She was very strong and honest with her work. She is not afraid to share her life and surrender her body to her work. Regie Gibson sat in on the conga drum and the trio was in fine form.
Nate won the slam. A good funny poet he is! A few new faces in the slam last Sunday and it is always good to see that.
