Elmer Martinez is a Lowell Poet and interdisciplinary working artist. He is currently in his senior year at Emerson College studying Lighting Design and Dance. As a poet Elmer grew up listening to the voices of Febo, Ricky Orng, Douglass Bishop, Joey B and Masada Jones. He also was surrounded by the rest of the FreeVerse homies at Untitled Open mic since 2012. Much of his work deals with his upbringing in the Mill City. Other influences of his style include Jazz, Hip-Hop, Salsa, and other musical genres. Also known to some of his street dance friends as Elmstreet, Elmer, works on multiple projects a year as a community organizer, arts events producer,dancer, lighting designer and MC. He is the Founder/ Editor in Chief of “The Dance Plug” a bi-weekly dance newsletter for the Massachusetts underground dance scene. At Emerson he is the President of “The Hip-Hop Society” and works at the admissions department recruiting multicultural perspective students to diversify the school. His favorite word is “Hello”.
