Event Description

Douglas Bishop
Douglas Bishop has been jamming and slamming at the Poetry Jam since it got going – which means he’s been a regular at the Lizard for more than 20 years. As a teacher, he has worked with students ranging in age from 1 to 90, but now teaches English as a Second Language in an urban middle school. As a poet, he has performed in a variety of venues, from Glasgow to Guatemala, but now he’s mostly found in Lowell, MA, where he is the Mill City Slam Master. He is currently working on a doctorate in education, looking at the development of identity in young writers. For this birthday feature (and December 2 really is his birthday), Douglas will be joined by Marlon Carey, a former Lizard King, performer, poet, and educator in his own right (who will be doing the Poetry Jam feature on December 9), for a theme set: Poems for the Waters of the World.
